Flipping the Script on Music Discovery: Meet 13
Manual curation, transparent contracts, and a platform actually built for independent artists.
By Markus ·

Let’s be honest. The current music industry often feels like a massive, soulless machine chasing playlist streams and feeding algorithms. Genuine, independent talent gets buried under the noise on a daily basis. But every now and then, someone steps up and actually tries to build something different. Enter 13, a brand-new music discovery platform currently gearing up for its official summer launch.
When the founder, Christopher Boggs, reached out to Spinlog MAG recently, the shared vision was obvious right away. We both believe in supporting the indie scene through honest connections rather than raw metrics.
Here is exactly what makes 13 worth your attention.
The Human Element In an era where everything is automated, 13 is building its foundation on real relationships. Instead of just opening the floodgates for mass uploads where music gets lost in the void, Chris takes the time to personally listen to the submissions and directly guides the artists during the onboarding process. Right now, the platform is in an exclusive early phase, working closely with a starting roster of just 10 dedicated artists. This hands-on guidance ensures that early adopters aren't just data points on a server, but valued creators helping to shape the platform's initial catalog.
I Read the Fine Print (So You Don't Have To) In this industry, a platform is only as good as its artist agreement. I actually asked Chris to send over the official contract so I could check for the usual traps. Surprisingly, it is one of the cleanest, most artist-friendly agreements I’ve seen in a while.
Here are the facts: You retain 100% ownership of your music and rights. The deal is strictly non-exclusive, meaning you can still distribute and pitch your tracks anywhere else. There are absolutely no hidden fees. The only requirement to join is that you must upload and maintain a minimum of five active tracks. In exchange, artists are entitled to a 1% cut of the app’s net subscription revenue. It is a completely fair, zero-BS arrangement.
Free for Artists, Fair for Listeners The financial model is just as transparent as the contract. 13 is entirely free for artists. Listeners can also explore the catalog for free. The only premium aspect is the platform's core innovation: its AI-powered search engine. If listeners want to use the AI to find highly specific tracks, they pay a tiny €1.99 fee. This simply covers the backend API costs of running the AI, keeping the rest of the ecosystem free for the community.
Get in Early At Spinlog MAG, we have massive respect for people who put the music and the creators first. If you have five strong tracks ready and want to be part of a growing community built with genuine care, you should definitely take a look before they officially launch.
