AURA Festival Takes Over Münster's Industrial Heartland
From car washes and scrapyards to a massive two-day open-air rave - how the AURA crew transformed an industrial yard into an unforgettable electronic experience.

'Outdoor, rough, and absolutely iconic' - with these exact words, AURA kicked off its next big chapter this weekend. After nearly two years of wild pop-up raves, the premiere of the two-day AURA Festival finally took place at a massive construction materials yard in Münster. We were right there in the middle of the crowd on Saturday to witness the launch of this new milestone firsthand.
When the three founders, Claudio Hoffmann, Giulia Wahn, and Nils Ottmann, first came up with the idea, their vision was simple: short, intense early-evening raves aimed at anyone who just doesn't want to spend an entire night out in a club anymore. Since then, the collective has brought electronic music to unusual everyday locations where you would never expect a party. To keep things fresh, they have turned warehouses, hair salons, fast-food restaurants, car washes, shopping malls, and corporate offices into pulsing dancefloors.
While they already proved they can command massive crowds under the open sky - like their 1,200-person open-air at a local scrapyard on May 1st or a wild rave on a ship off the coast of Norderney - this weekend marked their very first full two-day festival experience. Despite the massive scale, the familiar, close-knit AURA vibe was instantly palpable. Access remained strictly limited: tickets were only available through raffles or a community referral system.
The sprawling industrial site offered a massive variety of discoveries. Attendees could grab food from diverse food trucks serving everything from burgers and loaded fries to Asian food, vegan options, and desserts. Between sets, the crowd relaxed in cozy, well-designed chill-out areas or stopped by the completely free festival make-up stand to get ready for the night.
The absolute epicenter, though, was the MainStage. Here, MBP (Claudio) took the wheel. Acting as the resident DJ of the brand, he delivered a massive all-day set that spanned the entire spectrum from driving dance to heavy tech. When he seamlessly mixed familiar Münster anthems into the heavy beats, the crowd went completely wild. Adding to the sheer intensity of the set was the jaw-dropping stage production, featuring massive lighting rigs and explosive fire effects that illuminated the entire industrial yard.
This exact crowd is the heartbeat of the movement, and it showed at every corner. Take Christian from Münster, who initially played it cool saying his crew just wanted to 'have a look,' but ultimately scrambled to score last-minute tickets via local classifieds. Or Stella and her girls, who have been unconditionally loyal to the concept since those earlier mall raves. Then there was the duo from Lahr who snagged codes via a last-minute promo and were already completely euphoric by 8 PM. Even veterans like Lennart and his buddy from Ascheberg made sure to celebrate the Saturday premiere.
The fact that this day kept its intimate, family-like character despite its massive new dimensions is the achievement of a huge, tireless crew in the background. Everywhere on the festival grounds, you could feel the passion of the highly dedicated people who made this event possible. How close the organizers actually are to their community showed in countless hands-on details. Organizer Nils was controlling the massive lights live as a Light Jockey (LJ) right next to the DJ booth. Marco, the DJ's brother, introduced himself directly to us as the 'Runner' and ultimate go-to guy.
Rounding out this core powerhouse team is Giulia. We experienced her firsthand as an incredibly welcoming, uncomplicated point of contact. While you constantly spot her driving the energy across their social media feeds, she is also an accomplished singer and event manager herself. Seeing her relentless dedication behind the scenes, alongside the rest of the founders, makes it completely clear why this project is destined for success. It took a massive, collective effort from absolutely everyone involved to drive this event home.
The festival Saturday was a gigantic experience and a massive organizational statement. And anyone who knows this crew knows one thing: the crazy journey just continues.
On September 23, AURA invites the city to its very first afterwork rave right inside a local bakery.
