Fragmented Reflections Commands Heavy Cinematic Transitions on Ascent
Multi-instrumentalist Max Bolotov shapes a raw, structural instrumental tracking internal change.

Multi-instrumentalist Max Bolotov opens up his debut Fragmented Reflections album, 'Between Here and Nowhere', with the sprawling instrumental movement 'Ascent'. Originally born as a raw acoustic riff during a 30-week writing challenge, the track pulls away from traditional vocal patterns to let structural soundscapes carry the narrative weight. Arranged and mixed inside Ableton Live 12, the production borrows heavily from '70s progressive rock and moody cinematic textures, trading electronic shortcuts for authentic instrumental tracking.
The piece works through two distinct phases to capture an internal mental shift. It opens on a quiet, melancholic acoustic arrangement tracked with a capo in E minor using an AKG P220 microphone, before executing a sharp key change that alters the entire mood. From there, Bolotov builds a thick wall of sound, driving soaring Fender Stratocaster solos over a warm Ibanez semi-hollow bass groove and functional EZdrummer programming to finish the climb.
