After spending roughly thirty years playing gigs and fronting bands around Philadelphia, singer-songwriter Joe Hubbard is finally calling the shots on his own terms. His self-titled solo debut reveals a veteran musician diving straight into the deep end of the recording process, eager to map out new sonic territory.
On the featured track, 'It Was A Day,' Hubbard pulls a lot of character from a minimal setup while working out of FL Studio, relying on a tiny micro synth and a pocket amp simulator to generate surprisingly massive textures. The song anchors itself on a simple, hypnotic repeating bassline that leaves plenty of breathing room for the instruments to evolve. As the track moves forward, the guitars and synth patterns start to stack up, creating a rich, immersive soundscape that hits that perfect sweet spot between laid-back and incredibly catchy.
