Canadian electronic producer Liadeathbell has just released 'Wish you well', a beautifully melancholic ambient EDM track that marks a fascinating shift from her roots playing in hardcore punk bands. Shifting her focus to late night electronic production last fall, Lia draws heavy inspiration from the dark lo-fi realms of Ontario artist Dated, alongside structured electronic acts like Metrik and Fourward.
'Wish you well' was written as an sonic exhale after finally cutting ties with an ex-boyfriend, capturing that unique, bittersweet space of wishing someone peace while permanently closing the door on the relationship. The track evokes the imagery of a quiet, starry summer night spent in an open field, wrapped in a deeply atmospheric and gloomy texture.
Produced using a Native Instruments Maschine MK3 and Novation's Launchpad Pro app on iOS, the track features crisp, textured sound design. Lia particularly shines on the rhythmic programming here, hitting a personal milestone by seamlessly locking down an intricate, stuttered beat that drives the ambient melody forward without breaking the smooth, late night vibe.
