Southern California native LUVR (the moniker of singer, songwriter, and guitarist Efra Flores) is quickly defining his own corner of the alternative R&B landscape. With his captivating new single, 'Angel', the artist crafts a hazy, narcotic atmosphere that perfectly soundtracks the chaotic nature of late-night toxic romance. Operating at a slow-burning 74 BPM, the track serves as the direct second chapter to his narrative arc, following his debut single 'Marilyn Monroe' on the path toward his upcoming conceptual album, 'Luv & WAR'.
While Flores only began his journey as a vocalist nine months ago, his musical roots run significantly deeper. A guitarist of over a decade, Flores blends dark, atmospheric production with expressive, string-driven arrangements heavily influenced by West Coast G-funk, classic rock icons like Jimi Hendrix, and early 2010s alternative R&B. Vocal nods to modern heavyweights like The Weeknd, Frank Ocean, and Brent Faiyaz ripple through the performance, yet Flores grounds the project in a vulnerable perspective that is entirely his own.
Formed in the Bedroom
The creative spark for 'Angel' is a beautiful patchwork of real-life inspiration. Flores drew a guitar riff from one relationship, a specific melody and verse from another, and rhythmic beats from a third, creating a vivid culmination of his experiences. Despite the complex, multi-layered emotion of the lyrics, the song began in the simplest way imaginable: a Fender Stratocaster plugged directly into a bedroom amplifier.
Working within FL Studio, Flores tracked vocals with a Lewitt LCT 240 PRO microphone, monitoring the mix through a decade-old Komplete Audio 6 interface gifted by a friend before leaving for New York. While the technical setup was modest, Flores took the helm as the captain of his sound, collaborating closely with a team of trusted production partners who helped bring his atmospheric vision to life. The final result is a professional, human-created masterclass in mood, proving that raw vision and a decade of guitar discipline can easily triumph over premium studio budgets.
