Mutations Drop a Grit-Soaked, Heavy Debut with 'Anemia'
Chicagoland's punk collective keeps things beautifully simple on a massive, fuzz-drenched first release.

Chicagoland's Mutations just dropped their debut single 'Anemia', a heavy slice of scuzz-pop born from a late-night, hazy jam session. The band keeps things completely stripped-down, using only a fuzz-soaked bass, electronic drums, and raw group vocals. By running an Alesis drum kit straight into a basic interface and recording vocals with a standard Shure SM58, they capture an immediate, gritty energy that feels incredibly honest.
What makes the track stick is the contrast. They pair bleak lyrics about physical exhaustion and paranoia with an upbeat, driving rhythm and infectious vocal melodies. It is an ironic, heavy-hitting introduction from a collective that clearly plays by its own rules.
