orangemouse Cut Loose on High-Energy Jam 'Contract and Release'
Pulling members from Alpentines and Cadavre de Schnaps, the Cologne duo turn bedroom pop into an unhinged, happy joyride.

Operating out of Cologne bedrooms, orangemouse pulls together players from Alpentines and Cadavre de Schnaps who share a soft spot for oddball pop experiments. 'Contract and Release' was not overthought; it came straight out of pure instinct and the simple urge to make something fun when in a great mood. The duo sums up the energy pretty bluntly: 'Solsbury Hill on MDMA'.
The track actually started out as prog pop with an acoustic coda before mutating into a full-on energetic joyride, tracked using a Teenage Engineering OP-1, a Fender Stratocaster, raw vocals, and a big bass line. That stripped-back bedroom setup gives the arrangement room to breathe while keeping the momentum moving forward without clutter.
Even with lines obsessing over ticking clocks and staying clear of social expectations, the happy vibe stays front and center. Taking cues from the playful, kaleidoscopic lane carved out by Animal Collective and Peter Gabriel, the project lands on an offbeat groove where spontaneous ideas take full control.
